I have officially become a giant wine nerd. I have an exam in June and am already saying no to all things social to stay home and study. The Australia Day public holiday, while most of the country was having BBQs and wearing thongs (on their feet), I researched and wrote notes on Piemonte. Such a rockstar. You see, I am up to Unit 3 in my WSET Diploma – the one that strikes fear into the heart of every Dip student. Essentially with this exam if a wine isn’t sparkling or fortified you could get examined on it. Just think about how many wines that is…  Müller Thurgau could show up requesting a comparison of New Zealand vs Swiss examples; Melnik, a full-bodied, tannic red from Bulgaria could show up in a blind tasting. I am already panicking about how very little time I have to prepare and I started studying on Boxing Day. I told you, SO rock and roll.

Last month had quite a lot of celebration themed posts. The most popular was Australian Wine Reviews Favourite Christmas Drinks Poll Outcome – Pinot Noir was the winner! A trend I certainly contributed to with my duck and Pinot Christmas Eve tradition. There was plenty of sparkling in my Christmas plans too though 🙂

My favourites last month were:

The Spice Adventuress’ Indian Food and Wine Experience in the Mornington Peninsula. I love the Mornington Peninsula, just an hour south of Melbourne but had no idea there was an Indian-origin winemaker there. I am always a bit terrified by matching wine to Indian food and tend to stick to safe ol’ off-dry riesling, so I am pretty tempted to go and check out the restaurant Dhanya visited too.

I am pretty jealous of the way Wine Esquire rang in the New Year in the most gorgeous historic house with a private chef and some exquisite wines. It has made me think that maybe I need to give a little more attention to my dinner parties – rather than the pot luck and random (but fine) wine selections that usually grace my table.

Make sure you check out Willunga Wino’s favourite too

Now it’s your turn, we would love you to link up your favourite drinks posts below.
