Winenot Wednesday #16 – January 2016

Wow, it’s 2016. When did that happen?

I hope you had a lovely festive period. In true rock ‘n’ roll style, I spent my couple of days off studying for my WSET exam…in June! Yep, it’s unit 3 where you can get tested on anything to do with any still (i.e not sparkling, or fortified) wine from anywhere in the world. A two hour tasting exam on twelve blind wines (much scarier than 3 blind mice) and a three hour theory exam means you probably won’t hear a heck of a lot from me in the next six months. Yikes.

We had lots of great entries in December’s #Winenot linkup.

The most popular post was Travelling Corkscrew’s post on Goodwill Wines which gives half of its profits to charity. If you haven’t heard of it before, the site Good Spender is a lovely way to give back while you are giving. It is a site for various social enterprises to sell their wares and a proportion of all sales goes to charity.

My favourite posts from last month were:

The Sommelier Chef’s post on Floc de Gascogne, a fortified wine made locally (to her in South West France) that I have never heard of before. It is fortified with Armagnac and tastes like “almond, jasmine, roses, honey and black fruit” – how good does that sound!

I was also a bit chuffed to see that Compass and Fork have been hanging out in Melbourne and put together some fabulous tips on making a cheese platter.

Make sure you check out Willunga Wino’s favourite too

Now it’s your turn, we would love you to link up your favourite drinks posts below.
