The Purple Toaster of Happiness

This Product talk is brought to you by Nuffnang and Spotlight IMK Pro Colour

I am a tightarse. I come from a working class family who instilled in me an extraordinary ability to save money and a burning desire never to throw anything out.

The vast majority of my furniture comes from op-shops, my kitchen appliances are hand-me-downs from when my friends have upgraded. I am not part of the disposable society, I will use things until they are on their last legs, and then use them a few times more.

Such was the story with my toaster. A friend had moved in with her boyfriend and no longer needed her standard-issue college housing toaster, my last toaster had died some time before and I had been toasting bread under the grill ever since. That toaster and I had 2 1/2 good years together before it forgot how to toast. Instead of a nice even browning it began to burn the crust whilst leaving the bread untouched. My mornings became about rotating the bread through short toasting sessions. This added a good 5 minutes to my morning routine (which is less routine, more obstacle course) as I hovered over the toaster ready to rescue my breakfast banana bread from incineration.

Little did I know it was also damaging my psyche.

When I was offered an appliance to review from the new IMK Pro Colour range at Spotlight, I thought long and hard before requesting a toaster. My old one still worked, I mean it still toasted…eventually, albeit unevenly. Little did I know just how much joy a toaster can bring.

Firstly, my IMK Pro Colour toasted is purple and shiny (see how shiny! You can see my reflection). It makes me happy when I walk into my largely white kitchen to be greeted by a burst of colour. I love colour.

Secondly, it toasts the bread evenly and beautifully, every time. I can trust my toaster to do its thing while I do mine, adding back a much needed 5 minutes to my morning. And should I want to just rewarm before I munch, there is a bun warming feature too.

Thirdly, I am happier. I know that sounds odd, but it wasn’t until my daily wrestle with a toaster was gone that I realised just how much the frustration was feeding into my day. We are all busy and tired and stressed (and if you aren’t please email me with advice), sometimes it is worth spending $45 on a jolly coloured appliance to make life that little bit easier.

Watch out kettle, you’re next :)
