Ms G’s just screams SYDNEY to me. The buzzing energy combined with a beautiful view, graffiti covered walls and a quirky street feel is just so very Sydney.
The food is fun-Asian, pushing the boundaries of what you expect but maintaining traditional flavours and those gorgeous umami characters that we all love about Asian cooking.
There is a cracking wine list with a good range of options by the glass and separated according to quirky descriptions like “Single, white and easy” and “Subtle, Sleek and Approachable.”
We settled on a carafe (awesome if you want a little more than one glass but not quite two each) of NV La Jara Prosecco ($24).
Before tucking into the food:
Mini bánh mì- crisp pork belly $6ea
These were dripping with a creamy dressing and gorgeously rendered pork fat. Finger-licking amaze!
Prawn toast, yuzu aioli, herbs $15
I don’t think I’ve eaten prawn toast since the white bread versions of the 80s. This one comes with large fleshy chunks of prawns atop a ciabatta-style bread, perfectly crispy and drizzled with yuzu aoili.
BBQ calamari, Balinese sambal, pork scratching’s $21
As far as I’m concerned all calamari should be served with crunchy pork scratchings, they add such delightful crunch and smoky flavour. Be warned, this dish is super-spicy, especially if you eat all the fresh chillis on top. But so so good.
Stir fried angus beef, fennel & chrysanthemum kimchi, warm tortillas $29
This photo really doesn’t do the dish justice. The beef was beautifully charcoaled on the edges and went beautifully with a tangy kimchi.
Service was brisk if a bit haphazard. Dishes were dropped off without much ceremony and when an error was made it took us a few goes to get a servers attention to fix it. However this is a minor quibble and I have a feeling there were a number of new staff on the floor.
Ms Gs is a great place to go for a casual night out. The food is delicious and a little bit different. If you are in for the long-haul you can move upstairs after dinner to kick on with some serious cocktails.

You had me at the carafe of Prosecco and the food looks totally droolworthy. I have wanted to go for a while, but I’m desperate. Those crispy pork belly banh mi are now on my edible bucket list.
Awesome, I know you conquer your bucket lists too 🙂
